Austentation
One Act
(~90-minutes)
© 2019
This delightfully funny take on Comedy of Manners follows a Regency Era woman who is getting a little uncomfortably beyond marriageable age, and a gentleman who has swapped roles with his footman in effort to… sow some wild oats with the commoners. While she pursues the footman, believing him to be the gentleman, the real gentleman stirs up trouble of his own. Mothers in drag, lesbian sisters, miserly fathers, and a spendthrift brother are just some of the kooky inhabitants of Austentation's Bakewell. Inspired by classic Comedy of Manners, the works and world of Jane Austen, and served with a dash of modern sensibility, this play is certainly more than a little...ostentatious.
